Work is currently underway at Lauren Park near Walmart that will make way for Hardee’s.

Three new restaurants coming soon to Abbeville

Abbeville will soon have a few more options for those who want a quick bite to eat.
Dairy Queen, Papa John’s Pizza and Hardee’s are currently under construction and will be opening in the coming weeks and months.
For some citizens, these developments represent more than just three new places to eat.
“This is a positive for the city,” Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza said. “With the economy the way it is today, I am sure these new jobs will be welcomed. They will be filled by local people.”
For the city, the businesses represent a new revenue stream.
“That is an increase in our utility base,” Piazza said. “That is where a majority of our revenues are derived, primarily off electricity, water and waste water. This will also be a nice increase in the sales tax base and the property tax base.
“That will benefit not only Abbeville, but all local governmental bodies that thrive on property taxes in the parish.”
That the restaurants are locating here speaks well for where the city is and is heading, according to Vermilion Economic Development Alliance Director Anne Falgout.
“Even though each company has their own criteria for choosing their next location,” Falgout said,
most companies look at long-term viability as a factor. Choosing Abbeville means that the research these companies performed provided confidence that their business could be successful for many years to come. Vermilion Parish is attractive as a place to work and raise a family, causing population growth that these companies just can’t ignore.
“We’re excited about these new locations, because businesses breed businesses, which means more growth for not just Abbeville, but the surrounding communities.”
The current growth is not all about new businesses for the city. Domino’s, a long-standing business in Abbeville, is in the process of completing its new location on the Bypass.
“We also have two locally owned establishments that are coming,” Piazza said. “The old Comeaux’s Cafe has been bought out and the new owners are looking to reopen something there. The old Courtyard Cafe is being remodeled and is soon to open as a piano bar.”
Positives certainly abound for these new businesses that can create lasting effects for the city.
“These restaurants are very popular. People are talking about them and looking forward to patronizing those establishments.
“To me, the biggest thing is the jobs all of this will create.”
