Six interviewing for Abbeville High head coaching job on Thursday

The search for a new head football coach at Abbeville High School is underway.
For the last week, applications were being accepted at the school board office. The final day was Wednesday.
According to Abbeville High Principal Ivy Landry, he is interviewing six applicants on Thursday.
The names of the applicants were not released but sources close to the Abbeville High football program said three out of the six applicants are assistant coaches at high schools in Vermilion Parish.
Landry did say some applicants did have head football coaching experience. One even has playoff experience.
A new head coach could be named by the end of this week.
In the last 10 years, Abbeville High has had five different head football coaches.
Former Abbeville High head coaches were Keith Calvert, Robert Tommer, Ward Courville, Larry Breaux and Chris Towery.
The last time the Wildcats reached the playoff was with Larry Breaux in 2010 when AHS went 4-9.
Abbeville also reached the playoffs in 2005 under Calvert.
The last non-losing season was in 2007 under Tommer. They went 5-5.
The last winning season the Wildcats had was in 2002 under former head coach Brent Indest.
