Security check will start Monday in the Vermilion Parish courthouse

If you work in the Vermilion Parish Courthouse, you may want to get to work a few minutes earlier Monday morning because there may be a line of people waiting to get into the courthouse. The line may be caused by the first day of a security check at the courthouse.
Starting Monday, everyone who wants to enter the courthouse will have to do so through the north side of the courthouse only. The northside doors are located across the street from MedXcel (the old Gary’s Men Store) and only those doors will be open for entrance.
Before you are able to walk into the halls of the courthouse, you will have to surrender all of your personal belongings to be scanned. Your wallet, keys, purse, cell phone, finger nail clippers and anything else you may own will be x-rayed through a scanner.
A security guard will be viewing everything on a monitor that is passed through the scanner. If you clear that, then you have to walk through a scanner as a way to check to see if you have any guns or knives in your possession.
The two security guards, paid for by the police jury, will be at the entrance of the courthouse until the courthouse is closed for the night.
Everyone can exit out of the other doors in the courthouse, but no one will be able to enter through them.
Roberta Boudreaux, the liaison between the police jury and the sheriff’s office, told the police jurors Thursday night at a committee meeting; she expects there to be “glitches” because it will the first day.
Boudreaux told the jurors law enforcement agents, who carry guns and have business in the courthouse, will be able to carry their weapons into the courthouse. If the law enforcement agent is there on a personal matter, the gun will not be allowed, Boudreaux said.
