School bus loaded with children broad sided by truck this morning

Five sent to hospital; bus driver given ticket

A Vermilion Parish school bus, loaded with 27 children, was struck broadside at around 8 a.m. Wednesday.
The bus was heading south on La. 82 (behind McDonald's) and attempted to make a left on Jane Street. A truck heading north on La. 82 broadsided the bus near the door of the bus.
Five children were transported to Abbeville General with minor injuries, according to Master Trooper Brooks David of the Louisiana State Police.
The driver, whose name had not be released, suffered no injuries. David said the bus driver will be cited with a ticket.
Bus 150 was a brand new bus the school board purchased this year.
It was not known if the children who did not go to the hospital were transported to their schools.
The accident happened outside of the Abbeville city limits.
A part of La. 82 was closed for a couple of hours due to the accident.
David said State Police still has an ongoing investigation into the accident.
