Rep. Miguez discusses gun ownership

If there is anyone who has a respect for guns in south Louisiana, it is State Rep. Blake Miguez.
Miguez is a world champion shooter and has been around guns all of his life.
He has respect for every weapon he owns, including an AR-15 rifle, the same type that was used in the 50 killings in Orlando, Fla.
The talk begins each time there is a killing and a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle is involved. Should the assault rifle be banned for Americans?
Miguez, who owns a couple of AR-15s, is against banning the rifle.
Miguez is a firm believer that it is not the gun killing people, it is the person pulling the trigger that is doing the killing.
“The AR-15 is a military and civilian rifle with a superb design,” said Miguez. “Like many gun enthusiast in my district, I own several of them and shoot them regularly. This gun should not be banned because it was misused by mentally disturbed individuals with ill intent. This gun will be our citizens last line of defense when our freedoms are threatened by enemies both domestic and foreign.”
An AR-15 shoots just under 180 rounds a minute or about three rounds a second. It has been the weapon of choice in many shootings where multiple people have been killed.
Anti-gun owners, each time there is a killing, restart their push to try and get the AR-15 taken off the market.
“Anti-gun groups and their political followers always use these type of tragic events as an attempt to infringe on law abiding citizens second amendment gun rights,” he said. “Our first response should instead be to pray for the victims and their family. Next we should also take notice of the real world dangers among us, educate ourselves, and be prepared to defend ourselves and our family from these evils.
“Our biggest concern as a country should be, whether and to what degree, Islamic terrorist were involved with this incident,” he added.
“We should be worried about treating mental health and keeping the terrorists influence out of our country.”
