Receiver boxes for seismic survey spotted throughout Vermilion Parish
Have you noticed strange looking boxes surrounded by wire along side the roads in Vermilion Parish?
Some people have because six were stolen over the last few weeks.
These strange looking things, that can be found in Abbeville and parts of the parish, are receiver boxes for 3-D Seismic work being done throughout the parish to better identify drilling prospects for Dunn Exploration Company LLC.
Jerry Niekamp, the vice president of Dunn’s land exploration, said the receiver boxes are placed at designated locations for approximately two to three weeks to record the sound waves generated by the Vibroseis Trucks, which will be going down various streets within Abbeville.
The Vibroseis trucks are being escorted by law enforcement vehicles and personnel to assist in traffic control to cause the least impact while performing the 3-D Seismic Survey. The seismic four trucks are located on the streets of Abbeville this week.
The Vibroseis trucks are closely monitored using Peak Particle Velocity Measurements to ensure no structural damage is caused by the energy source.
Once the 3-D Seismic surveying is complete, Niekamp said it will take months to process and research the data for Dunn’s explorationists, who will identify potential drilling prospect.
Law enforcement recommends people not to pick up the receiver boxes in hopes of making money off them. Niekamp said there is hardly any copper in the receiver to make them valuable. The receiver boxes also contain a G.P.S. Locating System and usually can be traced to their exact location if missing.
Niekamp said, “If someone did pick up one of the boxes, it would be most appreciated if they contacted a representative of Dunn Exploration Company, LLC to return the receiver boxes with no questions asked.”
