Quintylan Richard to serve life in prison for Allen Bares Jr.’s death

The man accused of shooting Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Allen Bares Jr. exactly two years ago today will spend the rest of his life in prison.
District Attorney Keith Stutes confirmed Thursday morning that Quintylan Richard has taken a plea deal to a life sentence at hard labor. The sentence carries no possibility of parole, probation or suspension of the sentence.
Richard took the plea in front of 15th Judicial District Court Judge Marilyn Castle Thursday morning at the Vermilion Parish Courthouse in Abbeville.
Bares, who was on his day off, was killed while responding to a possible burglary on June 23, 2014.
