Public reacts to Baudoin’s bravery

Today, as 21-year-old Haley Baudoin tries to physically and mentally heal from her attack by a stranger near the UL Campus, friends and strangers praise her for the actions she took Tuesday morning.
Baudoin was attacked and her car stolen near the UL Campus, and the suspect has still not been found.
Her cell phone was located in Scott but her car has yet to be found.
Baudoin, a 21-year-old who graduated from North Vermilion High, was approached by a 5-foot-8 black man Tuesday morning and asked for a cigarette lighter. He grabbed her and threw her in the backseat of her two-door Ford Mustang and attempted to drive off. Baudoin never gave up and began kicking, screaming and scratching him as he tried to hold her down in the back seat while driving.
He had enough of her kicking him, so he let her get out of the car. Neighbors saw her and they called the police.
Baudoin’s face was scratched and swollen the day after the attack.
Baudoin credits her father, Gerard, for telling her whenever she is in trouble to fight your way out of it. She did exactly that by kicking, scratching and screaming as he tried to drive off with her in the backseat.
Here are some of the comments posted on social media below Baudoin’s story which is posted on the Vermiliontoday.com website. They all praised her for her bravery.

“Very brave! Glad to know you are safe!! Thank God for your father teaching you to defend yourself!! My daughter was also attacked last year and she also fought and won. Her attacker was caught. She has had a rough time. But hold your head up and keep pushing. Get out in public as soon as you can. It helps :). God bless !”

Bonnie Jean Hicks Viator

“I am so very sorry this happened to you. So very sorry. It’s hard not to cry. We are parents of UL students, too. We have had off campus parking in the school area. This could happen to a guy too.
I believe your very distressing assault will serve as an example that will either prevent this from happening to someone else (maybe someone who isn’t capable of fighting off an attacker, my daughter is 5-feet & tiny) or educate those who won’t know what to do. I hope you gain your confidence again soon. Do whatever you feel will help you enjoy the world again & feel more confident in it.”
