An overturned tractor trailer kills a Maurice man

NEW IBERIA - Louisiana State Troopers responded to a single vehicle crash on US 90 near LA Highway 668 near Jeanerette around 7 a.m. on Friday.

Troopers report a 1999 Kenworth tractor trailer was traveling east on US 90, ran off of the right side of the roadway, traveled across both lanes of travel and traveled into the median which caused the tractor trailer to overturn.

The driver of the trailer is identified as 67 year-old Russell L. Charles of Maurice. Charles was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner's Office.

Impairment is not suspected, but routine toxicology samples were taken.
