One Erath water sample did not pass DEQ test; no school on Wednesday
ERATH - In order for the town of Erath to be removed from a boil advisory, all nine water samples had to pass a test by DEQ.
Eight passed and one sample did not.
Because that water sample failed to pass, the town is still under a boil advisory. With the town under a boil advisory, Vermilion Parish School Superintendent Jerome Puyau decided not to reopen the three schools in Erath.
So, for the second straight day, Erath High, Erath Middle and Dozier Elementary will be closed.
The schools are closed because it's not recommended by DEQ anyone drink the city water or use the city water to cook with.
Erath Mayor John Earl LeBlanc said he was disappointed in the failed water sample, and he apologizes for the inconvenience it has caused residents.
Another water sample at the failed location was taken Wednesday afternoon to Amite .
The test is a 24-hour test, so results will be known Thursday by noon.
This all started when a water line near the water plant in Erath broke Friday. A contractor changed out the entire water valve that same day.
Because the entire water plant was shut down, nine water samples had to be taken throughout the town.
