Ms Abbeville loses battle with Leukemia
The reigning Ms. Abbeville lost her short battle with Leukemia Thursday at the age of 21.
Paige Levine, an Abbeville High graduate, was diagnosed with Leukemia in June and in only a few months she is gone.
Funeral services are pending and Kinchen Funeral Home in Abbeville is handling the arrangements.
Back in April of 2013, she was crowned Ms. Abbeville. She ended up holding the title for the last 17 months.
She was attending UL and working at the Boys and Girls Club when she was not being Ms. Abbeville.
Denise Mire, the pageant director, said because of personal reasons, the Ms. Abbeville Pageant was not held in April of 2014.
Levine called Mire in June and told her the news about her illness. Mire said Levine was not feeling well and she went in for blood work. Doctors discovered she had Leukemia.
“Paige was positive about life,” said Mire. “She was awesome, along with being sweet and humbling.”
During their conversation Levine let Mire know she was going to beat Leukemia.
“The doctors gave her hope and that is all she needed,” Mire said.
Simone Cavalier, who is the assistant pageant director, said, “What I am going to remember about Paige is her smile. She was always smiling.”
As of Saturday afternoon, it was not known when funeral arrangements were going to be held.
Mire said God must have had a plan all along to keep Levine as Ms. Abbeville for 17 months.
“I am glad she was able to stay Ms. Abbeville,” Mire said. “She was so proud to be Ms. Abbeville.”
