Maurice man arrested on multiple charges
MAURICE — Officers with the Village of Maurice Police Department arrested a local man last Saturday in connection to a hit-and-run after a friend allegedly turned him in.
Police charged Casy G. Broussard, 19, of Maurice with hit and run, theft of an auto and careless operation, as well as not having a driver’s license.
“He took his mom’s vehicle without permission,” Maurice Police Chief Warren Rost said. “He took off with it and then got into an accident.”
That crash occurred around 11 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of La. Highway 92 and Chief H. Fred Avenue in Maurice. Neither Broussard nor the driver of the other vehicle were injured during the incident.
“The damage on the other vehicle wasn’t that bad,” Rost said. “It was bad enough to know that it was hit.”
Broussard allegedly left the scene in the car and went to the home of a friend nearby.
“We got a call from the subject’s (Broussard) friend,” Rost said. “The subject told the friend what had happened. The friend called us to let us know that (Broussard) was over there.
“One of our officers went over there.”
The officer made the arrest around 11:15 a.m., shortly after the crash.
“It was a fast-moving process,” Rost said.
