Maurice alderman plans to discuss handicap parking at Wednesday’s meeting
MAURICE — During the course of his election campaign and the three months that he has been in office, Village of Maurice Alderman Lynn Howell has stated that issues important to constituents are important to him.
With that, Howell will bring up the issue of handicap parking and the enforcement of such during Wednesday's Maurice Board of Aldermen meeting. The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the meeting room at city hall.
“During the last couple of weeks I have been approached about handicap parking,” Howell said. “I had a guy come up to me at church and said he has noticed vehicles parked in the handicap spaces that didn’t have decals or plates. He asked if I could bring it up. I was approached a week later by a woman who brought up that some businesses don’t have handicap parking available.
“I will bring up both of those things tonight.”
Howell can understand how important the issue is for some Maurice residents.
“One of the people who approached me noticed that I had a prosthetic leg,” Howell said. “I don’t always use the spots. I’m pretty mobile. Bringing this up is not for me personally. It’s simply because I was approached about it multiple times. I wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t at least bring it up (at the meeting).
“It’s part of my job.”
Howell will address the topic under council concerns. He invites anyone wishing to voice his or her views to attend.
“I would love to have as many people involved in this discussion as possible,” Howell said.
