LeBlanc ‘Outstanding’ Solid Waste Operator in Louisiana

For the last 13 years Ricky LeBlanc has been the supervisor of the Vermilion Parish Solid Waste Facility. Recently, because of how well he helped manage the parish facility, he was named the best solid waste operator in the state.
The Department of Environmental Quality (EPA) informed him that he was named the “Outstanding Level A
Certified Solid Waste Operator.”
He was honored recently at the Louisiana Solid Waste Association Conference held at the Cajundome Convention Center in Lafayette.
This is the first time he won the award.
“Who would have thought an Vermilion Parish Police Jury employee would win,” said LeBlanc. “Normally guys from larger companies win.”
LeBlanc said he was excited to read the letter he received informing he would. To win, he had to go through an interview process explaining what he does at the landfill and how long he has been working at the landfill.
The 52-year-old Abbeville native has been at the landfill since 1981 - a year after graduating AHS in 1980. He began as an operator for the compactor and worked his way up through the ranks.
LeBlanc has 32 1/2 years with the police jury and he said there is no set date when he plans to retire.
