Leadership Vermilion class registration open

Vermilion Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Vermilion program is accepting applications for its 2016 class. The Leadership Vermilion’s mission is to develop informed and committed citizens in order to strengthen and improve the quality of life for all Vermilion residents.
Be one of the dynamic individuals selected to participate in Leadership Vermilion. During these sessions, meet with local and regional leaders to examine issues of critical importance to the Vermilion Parish community. Site visits, roundtables, group discussions, and hands-on applications allow for active engagement. The Leadership Vermilion program offers participants access to an extraordinary network of area leaders and a unique opportunity to strengthen leadership skills.
This program is an avenue for the development of tomorrow’s community leaders. The program offers participants a collaborative forum in understanding the facets of our community and the services provided to its citizens. Candidates enjoy:
·the pursuit of life-long learning
·knowledge of issues firsthand, thereby becoming effective in influencing policy change on a community level
·a greater pool of business/professional contacts throughout the Vermilion Parish area
·effective interaction with local government and community agencies, special-interest groups
·satisfying personal contacts in civic, business and professional life
Through a nine-month period, participants learn about different aspects of Vermilion Parish through monthly, day-long sessions starting in January. Topics for the day-long sessions include—Team Building, Leadership, and Communication sessions; SIMSOC; Tourism and Culture; Education and Life Long Learning; Commerce and Sustainability; Public Safety; Government and Legislative Affairs; and Leadership Training.
The program begins in January with a Welcome Reception and Class Orientation and concludes with a graduation ceremony in October 2016.
The Leadership Vermilion Committee will choose 20 class participants based on criteria like education and community involvement. The class fee for the nine-month program is $500. Class fees will pay speaker costs, class materials, lunch for each of the sessions, a bus tour of Vermilion Parish and a bus trip to the state capitol. Participants must fill out an application. Applications must be received by 12:00 p.m. November 5, 2015.
