Family acquaintance accused of leaving bruises on child after beating with belt

A 28-year-old Lake Charles man is accused of cruelty to a juvenile for beating a child with a belt.

According to detectives, On Tuesday, a complaint of cruelty to a juvenile was received by Calcasi where 4-year-old child was found to have large bruises on her back. The investigation revealed a family acquaintance, Olmer M. Funes whipped her with a belt on her back.

Funes was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with cruelty to a juvenile.

Judge Robert Wyatt set his bond at $5,000.
