Kaplan man arrested for Lafayette Parish Hit and Run

Kaplan, LA - Following an extensive investigation, troopers have placed a Kaplan man under arrest for his part in a hit and run fatality crash that killed a bicyclist on LA 92 near Milton on July 7. At approximately 11:40 pm Sunday night, Troopers arrested 42-year-old Fitzpatrick F. Doucette of Kaplan. Troopers suspect that Doucette was driving a 1997 Lincoln passenger car that struck the bicyclist, Lon Lomas, and that he fled the scene after the crash.

A warrant was obtained for Doucette's arrest through the 15th JDC charging him with Negligent Homicide, Felony Hit & Run, Driving under Suspension, and Limitations on Passing Bicycles. Doucette was placed under arrest and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Facility.

On July 7, 30-year-old Lon Lomas was traveling East on LA 92 on a bicycle and was struck from behind by a vehicle. His body and bicycle were found in a ditch on East Milton Road in Lafayette Parish. Lomas received fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
