He is survived by his wife Connie, and children, Kati, Shohn and Bonni. His parents are Claness and Zoa Rost of Kaplan.

Rost, along with Marcus Greene and Jude Dubois, were members of a musical group called Paper Jam.
Mourning the loss of their fellow musician, their Facebook page stated, “We are so broken hearted to hear of the death of Davlon Rost tonight. Davlon was a good friend, husband, father, grandfather, teacher and coach at Kaplan High, and an amazing musician who I had the privilege to work and play with for many years as part of the Vermilion Parish School System and our band PaperJam.”
Rost was also a United States Air Force SAC Vietnam veteran serving from 1973-1977.
“We lost a great teacher,” said Kaplan High School Principal Dr. Guirini. “Davlon was a committed and passionate teacher who made a positive impact on his students, or anyone of the lives he touched.
“I knew him for only three years, and he made a huge impact on me. It is hard to lose him. It is like losing a member of your family.”
Craig Blanchard, a coach and teacher at Kaplan High stated, “We were friends and co-workers for 20 years and we were shocked when we found out.
“He was all about the kids. He never wanted a pat on the back for all his accomplishments. He wanted the kids to get all the recognition. Even though he was a very quiet and reserved kind of guy, his love of music and mathematics would always shine through. He was an extremely talented musician.
“Davlon was the type of guy who stayed late to be prepared for his students the next day,” added Blanchard. “He was always striving to learn to become a better teacher. He was always attending conferences to learn how to reach out to his students to make learning easier.”
Mary Pat Lachaussee, a teacher and close personal friend to both Davlon and his wife, Connie, summed it up with these words...
“Davlon Rost was a man of few words, but had much compassion for his family, his friends, his music, his students and his athletes. He was my best friend.”
Vermilion Parish Superintendent Jerome Puyau said Rost would help anyone who needed it.
“Whether you were a student in his class, or a teacher who needed an answer, Davlon Rost was always there to help,” Puyau said. “He was dedicated to the students of the school and would do anything he could to help them succeed.
“Mr. Ross will definitely be missed by all.”
