Kaplan girl has not been to Kaplan library since attempted rape happened

When one walks into a small library like the one in Kaplan, the thought of possibly getting raped in the bathroom never occurred to a 13-year-old female middle school student three years ago.
It does now.
In 2011, a middle school student from Kaplan walked into the library to study like she normally does. She went to the bathroom in the library and Christopher Brown followed her. She testified in court that Brown threw her to the floor and then a struggle began. She eventually managed to escape and run out of the bathroom.
Brown was arrested an hour later and charged with attempted forcible rape. He was found guilty of the charge on Wednesday.
When the verdict was read, the Kaplan family was in the courtroom to hear.
“I am happy,” said the mother. “Now we wait for a sentence.”
The girl, who is now 15, said she has not stepped foot into the Kaplan library since that afternoon. She also admitted for a while it was hard to go to the bathroom by herself in a public place.
“You would have never expected a library not to be a safe place,” said the mom.
