Hulin wins district judge’s race

Laurie Hulin made a piece of Vermilion Parish history on Tuesday night after winning the District Judge, Division G race.
Hulin beat Burton Guidry with 14,132 votes to 3,442 (80 percent to 20 percent).
With Hulin winning, she becomes only the second Vermilion Parish female attorney to become a district judge in the parish.
Trail blazing attorney Sue Fontenot was the first Vermilion Parish female attorney to be sworn in as district in the parish.
She took her oath of office for the 15th JDC in January of 1979 and served there until her resignation in March of 1987.
Fontenot died of cancer in 2008.
Since her death, 27 years have passed before another female attorney won a Vermilion Parish District Judge seat.
Hulin will be sworn into office in January. She is replacing Judge Durwood Conque, who is retiring.
“My husband, Shane, and I graciously accept the Vermilion Parish Voter’s choice for District Judge Division G,” said Hulin. “It is my pleasure to serve you. It is my duty to ensure justice, keep the integrity of our court, and uphold the law. I will perform my duty with the utmost respect for the people of this parish and high ethical standards. Your confidence in me is greatly appreciated. My heart will always remain with this community.”
Hulin was a former Vermilion Parish assistant district attorney before running for district judge.
She is married to Shane Langlinais.
