High-grade marijuana makes its way to Abbeville
Drug users in the area seem to like high-grade marijuana and do not mind spending the extra money for it, the Vermilion/Municipal Task Force has recently learned.
For the third time in seven days, the Vermilion/Municipal Task Force made a drug bust that involved high quality marijuana after an undercover operation.
Agents with the task force received information in reference to illicit narcotics being sold in the Abbeville area in its latest drug bust.
Upon opening an investigation, agents applied for, and obtained a search warrant for a residence at 148 Allan Lane in Abbeville.
Upon executing the warrant, a large amount of suspect high grade marijuana was located in the residence, along with two guns, paraphernalia for the sale and distribution of the drug, and suspected drug proceed monies.
Agents arrested and charged Chaz Leblanc (date of birth 7/12/88) of 148 Allan Lane with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a firearm, transactions derived from drug proceeds, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Last Thursday, the task force made another big drug bust at 709 North Bailey Street in Abbeville.
The task force located 15 pounds of marijuana with a street value of more $30,000.
Earlier that same week a man was getting high quality marijuana through the mail. He and his mother were arrested by the task force.
Task Force agents believe the type of marijuana recently found in the two drug busts is not grown locally is imported into Abbeville from out of Abbeville.
The two marijuana drug busts the last seven days by the task force are not connected.
Sheriff Mike Couvillon would like to thank Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza and the city council, along with Chief Tony Hardy for their effort in assisting with Task Force personnel. “I realize times are financially tough all over, but the Mayor and Chief of this city are committed to finding the funds to help the Task Force combat the illicit drugs problem that ruins our communities. The people of Vermilion and our children are the benefactors of these city leaders’ great efforts. It is my hope that in the near future other towns and cities in the parish of Vermilion will be able to assist in the continuing fight against illicit drugs.”
Finally, Sheriff Couvillon would like to applaud the concerned citizens of Vermilion Parish for their awareness and assistance in helping the Sheriff’s Office in fighting the war on illegal drugs. He encourages all citizens with information in regards to illegal drug activities to contact the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office or the Vermilion Parish Municipal Narcotics Task Force at 337-740-4501 or E-mail the Task Force anonymously at taskforce@vpso.net and your e-mail will be held in the “strictest of confidence” and replied to in a very timely manner.
