Gulf Coast Bank 29ers take care of young Eagles

The Abbeville Eagles, playing without many of their varsity starters, had to field a young lineup against the experienced Gulf Coast Bank 29ers from Abbeville.
In the end, experience was too much for the young Eagles, falling 8-3 to the 29ers in American Legion action on Thursday.
The 29ers improved to 2-3 on the year.
29er Head Coach Darrin Desormeaux said his club’s experience helped when the team got down by two runs in the top of the first inning.
“It helps to have older players on the team,” said Desormeaux. “We have a few players who have played a lot of baseball.”
The Eagles looked like they were going to make noise in the first inning in hopes of giving the 29ers a game.
They scored two runs and took a quick 2-0 lead.
In the top of the first inning, Cade Boudreaux reached first base after getting hit by a Taylor Abshire pitch. He would later score on Harrison Vicknair’s RBI-double to center-field. The next batter, Austin Belaire smacked a fielder’s choice that scored another run.
When the dust cleared, the Eagles were leading 2-0.
29er head coach Darin Desormeaux told his players when the 29ers came to bat in the bottom of the first inning, “Lets go get three runs this inning.”
That is exactly what the 29ers did.
They scored three runs in the bottom of first inning to take a 3-2 lead. The Eagles could never recover over the next six innings.
With the bases loaded, Allan Rowell brought home two runs with a 2-RBI double for the 29ers. Dylan Duhon singled home another run for the 29ers.
The 29ers retook the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the first frame and never gave it back.
From that point on, 29er starting pitcher Taylor Abshire kept the Eagles in check for six innings. Abshire threw all seven innings and gave up three earned runs to get the victory.
Desormeaux said he needed Abshire to pitch all seven innings because he needed to save his arms for Saturday.
The 29ers travelled to New Orleans to play Jesuit in a double header.
Abshire was not going to make the trip to New Orleans.
The 29ers put the game away in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Rowell and an error that led to a run.
The 29ers led 4-2 after three innings.
The Eagles, with only 10 players, used a handful of pitchers for seven innings.
Nick Smalley started on the hill for the Eagles. He lasted three innings. Austin Belaire came into the game in the bottom of the fourth frame.
Belaire did not get out of the inning, however.
29er’s Ty Desormeaux had a 2-RBI double off Belaire to make it a 7-2 game. With two outs, Carson Plaisance became the second pitcher in the fourth inning for the Eagles.
VC’s two pitchers gave up two walks, one hit-by pitch and two hits in the inning.
The 29ers added one more run on Tyler Galley’s RBI single.
