Gov. Jindal highlights $3.4 million La. 35 project in Vermilion Parish

On Friday, Gov. Bobby Jindal highlighted a $3.4 million project to overlay an 8.2-mile stretch of La. 35 between La. 82 and La. 335 in Vermilion Parish. The last overlay project on La. 35 was nearly 30 years ago in 1985. The recently completed overlay project was designed to make the stretch of road smoother and safer for the approximately 1,300 motorists it serves per day.
Governor Jindal said, “La. 35 is a key corridor in Vermilion Parish that helps drive our economy and gives sportsmen access to some of best hunting and fishing in the state. This project will speed up commutes for businesses and sportsmen, and most importantly, make this road safer for our families.”
Connecting directly to La. 82, the La. 35 corridor serves as a gateway to the Intracoastal Canal, which attracts sportsmen from across the state. The La. 35 corridor is also home to several hunting camps and boat launches that allow for quick access to the canal’s prime crabbing, crawfishing and fishing.
The corridor improvements will also provide better access to local airports and ports, including the Port of Vermilion and the Abbeville Chris Crusta Memorial Airport. Work began on the project in January 2013 and was completed in December 2013.
Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza said, “This crucial connection to the Intracoastal Canal gives citizens the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors, and to continue the economic growth in Louisiana. This will also make the roads safer for our people”
Since 2008, the Jindal Administration has invested an unprecedented $5.6 billion in Louisiana’s infrastructure.
