Go vote on Saturday

BATON ROUGE, —Secretary of State Tom Schedler reminds registered voters statewide that the Gubernatorial Primary Election will be held this Saturday, along with other races.
Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
Vermilion Parish has a parishwide election, as well as, two police jury races, BESE board members and re-dedications.
There is also two state representative races on the northside of the parish and the east and southside of the parish.
Nancy Landry, the incumbent, is running against Evan Wright in the State Representative race for District 31 (the North Vermilion, Maurice area).
Blake Miguez, the incumbent, is running against John Bering in the State Representative race for District 49.
His district covers the Erath and Delcambre areas, along with south of Abbeville to Forked Island and some of Abbeville.
The highest profile race in the parish is the sheriff’s race.
Mike Couvillon is trying to win his fourth term as sheriff. Running against him is Toby Walker.
Parishwide, voters will be asked to vote yes or no for a police jury one-time rededication of $1.3 million. The police jury is asking voters to approve or deny letting the police jury use $1.3 million from a special fund to build a new meeting room behind the present LSU Ag Center building in Abbeville.
Here is what will be needed when you go vote on Saturday.
• Bring a photo I.D. to the polls. (Louisiana Driver’s License, Louisiana Special I.D. card or another generally recognized picture identification card with your name and signature such as a passport).
• Voters without an I.D. will be required to fill out an affidavit but will be allowed to vote.
• By law, each voter is allowed three minutes to cast their ballot in order to expedite long lines.
Voters in line at 8 p.m. Will be allowed to vote.
Real-time election results will be posted to the Secretary of State’s website in several formats, (Graphical, Text and Mobile)
Allow three to five minutes between refreshing the results for optimal functionality. (Remember, the results must be transported from the polling locations to the Clerk of Court’s office and downloaded before populating our website.)
For Saturday’s elections, there are 1,069 offices to be filled statewide, with 2,095 candidates qualified. In addition, 73 propositions in 27 parishes will be decided as well as four statewide constitutional amendments. Based on early voting participation as well as historical data, Secretary of State Tom Schedler is anticipating turnout to be between 45-50%.
