Giant Omelette Celebration has top notch music entertainment for this weekend

The Giant Omelette Celebration turns 30 years old this year and because of that, the person who is in charge of landing the music entertainment for the Celebration got the green light to try and get good musical entertainment.
Chevalier Janine Dugas has been booking bands for the Omelette Celebration for the last 17 years. Her goal is always to try and get a Zydeco band, a couple of Cajun bands and a children’s band for the two day event.
“I try to get the best bands I can with the budget I have,” said Dugas. “Because it’s the 30th year, I had more money in the budget.”
To watch the entertainment is free.
For the first time, she booked a Grammy nominated band for the Saturday afternoon entertainment.
Roddie Romero and the Hub City All-Stars will perform from noon until 2 p.m. on Saturday near Magdalen Square in Abbeville.
The Grammy nominated Louisiana band has been performing worldwide at the most prestigious festivals and venues for over 20 years. This premier Louisiana band is celebrated not only for their authenticity when performing or recording traditional Cajun and Creole music indigenous to South Louisiana, but also for their original songwriting which stays true to Louisiana inspirations. They have recently garnered a Grammy nomination for their double record, “The La Louisianne Sessions.”
The first band on Saturday is The Drew Landry Band, who will play from 10 a.m. to noon.
Drew Landry’s catalog of music is rooted in cane fields of Southwest Louisiana & the Hill Country of South Texas. As a songwriter he is dynamic enough to write in any genre and his live show is a mix of folk, swamp blues, country, and southern rock.
Landry landed his first gig as a roadie on a Scott Biram/Hank III tour. Since Williams asked Landry to open that show he’s shared the stage with Billy Joe Shaver, Justin Townes Earle, Shannon McNally, The Angola State Prison Band, Lazy Lester, David Allen Coe, Charlie Louvin, Dwight Yoakam, Merle Haggard, Doug Kershaw, Johnny Winter, Dr. John and countless others.
Landry just returned from a European tour & is finishing his current film about the long term effects of the BP Deepwater disaster. Landry will headline the Muddy Roots Festival in Belgium in June & the Red Ants Pants Festival in July.
The celebration kicks off Saturday morning with the traditional Giant Omelette/St. Mary Magdalen Christian Service Center 2-mile walk/run. The walk/run will start at 9 a.m. in front of the courthouse. You can register until the time of the run.
Vendors for the Arts and Crafts will be on hand filling up Magdalen Square from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
While onlookers walk through the Square, there will be entertainment.
Kicking off the entertainment on Sunday will be the Terry and Zydeco Bad Boys from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Terry Domingue plays the accordion and sings traditional zydeco music in French.
The Fa Tras, a local Cajun band, will perform in front of the Courthouse from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
