Filmmaker returns to Abbeville to create his first short film
This past weekend filming a short film took place in downtown Abbeville. Behind the production of the film were two Abbeville natives who helped write and produce the film.
Cody Pontiff, 26, and Ashley Trahan, 25, recently wrote a script called “The Wedding Party.” Trahan came up with the story, and Pontiff wrote the script two months ago.
This weekend the two, along with actors and actresses, brought the script to life by filming nine hours in Magdalen Square or by Magdalen Catholic Church.
The movie is a romantic comedy about the best man and the made of honor. All actors are volunteers.
“It was fitting I film a wedding in Magdalen Square because I grew up not far from there,” Pontiff said.
This was Pontiff’s first try at making a short film. He created his own production company called “Yansommi Film and Graphics.” He purchased cameras and lighting equipment and works on his love at night after coming home from his day job and also spends most of his free weekends working on short movies.
After filming this past weekend, he is editing the film and sound over the next couple of weeks.
While this may his first attempt at making a short film, it won’t be his last. His company is already making plans for another one in the near future. He is also in the business of making music videos for local bands.
“We learned a lot,” he said. “There were a few things we couldn’t prepare for. We will be ready for the next time.”
