Fatal accident in Lafayette involving Abbeville man

An Abbeville man lost his life Monday afternoon in a two-car accident.
Dewey Whestcroft, 79, of Abbeville, died in the Ambassador Caffery crash Monday afternoon in Lafayette, according to KATC.
The Lafayette Police went to a crash about 2:15 p.m. Monday in the 5400 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway.
Police said a 1998 Mercury Cougar was traveling north on Ambassador Caffery when the driver tried to make a left turn onto La Neuville Road.
The Mercury was struck by a 2000 Toyota Camry traveling south on Ambassador Caffery Parkway.
Both drivers were transported to area hospitals immediately after the crash.
Wheatcroft, the driver of the Mercury, died at the hospital, KATC reports.
The driver of the Toyota is listed in stable condition.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
