Erath native Jade Nunez completes surgical residency

Recently, Erath native Jade Nunez was one of five surgical residents who finished his surgical residency at Wake Forest Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The 1999 Erath High graduate is one of elite group of 14 EHS graduates who have graduated as medical doctors through the years. He is one of the few in the elite group who is now a surgeon. Of the 14 Erath natives, the only other surgeon from Erath High is Dr. Robert (Bob) Segura Jr. who is an Orthopedic Surgeon in the New Orleans area.
With the dream of becoming a trauma surgeon, Nunez graduated from Erath High in 1999 and received with his MD from LSUHSC in 2007. He then spent three years at the Ochsner Clinic as a general surgery resident.
Nunez has traveled worldwide and participated in programs with top trauma surgeons. Some of his journeys included a rare medical trip to Africa and in 2005 he participated in a medical school trip to Maracaibo, Venezuela, as well.
He completed his surgical critical care fellowship in June of 2011 at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. At that time, he chose to remain there to complete his surgery residency which he recently completed.
At this point, he plans to complete one more year of fellowship at Wake Forest Hospital specializing in trauma surgery to achieve his goal of becoming a trauma surgeon.
Nunez who has worked to achieve a lifelong dream of becoming a trauma surgeon is currently on the tail end of achieving his long time career goal. Nunez recently spoke about his long journey he stated quite simply, “after it (his journey) is all said and done, I will be finally be a trauma surgeon.”
Nunez is the son of Carson and Fran Nunez of Erath and has three siblings, Beau, Kyle and Mya. Nunez. He is the grandson of Chris and Joyce Suire and RJ and Margerine Nunez, all of Erath.
