Erath mayor, alderman sworn into office

It is official - Erath has a new mayor and a new alderman.
On Wednesday in the Erath City Hall, newly elected Erath mayor John Earl LeBlanc and newly elected alderman Chris Hebert were sworn into office.
Doing the swearing in was Erath attorney Robert Vincent.
LeBlanc, an alderman for 28 years, was happy to be the new mayor.
“I am humbled for the support,” LeBlanc said.
A special election had to be held because of the death of then mayor George Dupuis.
LeBlanc said one of his first projects is to lower electricity rates in Erath.
He said with sewer rates where they should be, the town can afford to lower the electricity rates.
Also on the horizon is upgrading the town’s sewer plant, which is about a $4 million operation.
A project Dupuis was working on is bringing Family Dollar to Erath. He said the store purchased property outside the city limits, but the city is expected to incorporate that property into the city limits.
