Erath High students and friends leave personal messages on Noel’s classroom door
ERATH - Since the death of Erath High School teacher Amy Brown Noel, her classroom door has been closed, and there is a good chance it will remain closed the rest of the school year.
Noel was a chemistry and physics teacher at Erath High for more than 10 years. Last Tuesday, the 41-year-old was driving a 2009 Kia Sorento west on La. 14 when, for reasons still under investigation, her car began to rotate clockwise, ran off the right side of the road, drove through a ditch and struck a culvert with the driver’s side of the vehicle, State Police said.
This past Thursday she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at Lafayette General Medical Center. She also donated her organs, which are said to have helped at least nine people.
David’s Funeral Home in Erath is handling her funeral arrangements, starting at 2 p.m. today. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Erath. She will be buried in Delcambre at Our Lady of the Lake Mausoleum.
According to Erath Principal Marc Turner, the only people who have been in her classroom were her mother, Estelle and Amy’s husband Troy. They came in to try and remove her personal belongings. They could not and walked out.
Turner said some students went and sat in her classroom to cry after learning about her death.
Her classroom is the first room to the left when you walk into the high school. Her door is covered with personal notes and flowers in her memory.
Noel’s students have been taking chemistry and physics in virtual computer classrooms. Turner expects them to continue taking the classes online the rest of the school year.
Superintendent Jerome Puyau, who began as a teacher at Erath High School and knew Noel well, said, “There’s no word that can express how saddened we are to hear about the sudden loss of Mrs. Amy, who was a dedicated teacher, parent and friend of many. During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with the family, school and community. The Vermilion Parish School Board would like to extend their condolences. We will truly miss Mrs. Amy and will cherish all of the happy memories we had with her.”
