Early voting for runoffs begins Saturday
Vermilion Parish Voters will not have to decide on any local runoffs, but there are some important state elections still to be settled.
Those decisions can start being made this Saturday when early voting gets underway for the Nov. 21 runoffs.
Local voters will see three races, Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General.
Early voting will take place beginning tomorrow at Vermilion Parish Registrar of Voters Mike Bertrand’s Office. The office is located on the first floor of the Vermilion Parish Courthouse in downtown Abbeville. The process will take place each day from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. through next Saturday, Nov. 14. Bertrand’s office will be closed on Sunday, Nov. 8. The office will also be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day.
Any person wanting to vote must be a registered voter in Vermilion Parish and must provide a State of Louisiana identification card, such as a driver’s license.
Vermilion Parish voters will choose the next Governor in the runoff between Democrat John Bel Edwards and Republican David Vitter. The Lt. Governor runoff is between Democrat Melvin “Kip” Holden and Republican Billy Nungesser. Incumbent Attorney General James “Buddy” Caldewell, a Republican, is seeking re-election against Republican Jeff Landry.
“Early voting is a great way to conveniently cast your ballot on your schedule instead of having to fit it in on Election Day,” said Secretary of State Tom Schedler. “With turnout disappointingly low during the primary, I am strongly urging our state’s voters to engage in this important election. No excuses. Get informed and cast your ballot.”
Voters should utilize Louisiana’s award winning smartphone app, GeauxVote Mobile, to find out where to vote, what’s on their ballot and their voting districts.
