Downtown Abbeville bridge repair still on schedule; open by next week

Work currently being done by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) on the La. 14 bridge in Downtown Abbeville remains on schedule to be completed by early February.
“It’s still looking good for Feb. 6,” said Deidra Druilhet, Public Information Officer for the DOTD, Friday morning. “They are out there working today.”
The DOTD closed the bridge, which was built in 1938, on Jan. 20 to replace cables and wires. The original target date to reopen was Feb. 6, weather permitting. The recent cold snap and icy conditions left crews with the DOTD unable to continue work on the bridge last Friday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
“They are out there now going full force to get everything done so we can have it open to the public,” Druilhet said of the bridge that sees an average of 10,600 drivers a day.
