Darin Desormeaux announces candidacy for Police Jury District 1

After careful consideration, prayers and conversations with family, friends and parish leaders, I would like to announce my intentions to run for the office of Police Juror, District 1, in Vermilion Parish. The timing could not be better as my entire adult life of community service has groomed me to succeed as the Police Juror for the North Vermilion and Maurice area. I know the strengths and weaknesses of District 1 and have ideas to improve on the good things and attainable plans to correct our problems. It is my hope that I have the opportunity to meet with you personally in my campaign to discuss my philosophy about the Police Jury position. I have my ideas, but I wish to hear from you about your concerns and the needs of District 1 and the Parish and learn of the direction you, the voters and tax payers, would like to see us take not only for our District but the entire Parish. It is my primary goal to provide quality leadership to you as I did for twelve (12) years as a member of the Board of Alderman of the Village of Maurice.
I am a lifelong resident of District 1 and graduated from North Vermilion High School in 1988. My parents are Daniel and Claudine Desormeaux of Maurice and I have been married to my lovely wife Shelly (Kebodeaux) for 20 years and we have three children, Ty a senior, Tanner a sophomore and Mallory a freshman at North Vermilion High School. Besides my previous elected service on the Maurice Board of Aldermen, I am very active in our schools serving as current President of the Patriot Athletic Club and Chairman of Project Graduation of 2015. Active in our community as the past President and current member of the Maurice Volunteer Fire Department and current Vice President of the Vermilion Parish Economic Development Alliance. My family is active at St. Alphonsus church and I as a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
District 1 has seen unprecedented growth since Hurricane Rita hit us ten years ago. We all realize we have issues with the quality of our roads, bridges and drainage systems which need to be addressed. I see the need for enhancing programs like fire protection, solid waste collection, mosquito control, cooperative extension programs and youth programs along with coastal restoration projects. I also see the need for building strong relationships with local bodies that provide vital services in District 1, such as with the Mayor and Village Officials in Maurice, the School Board, our Drainage District, Waterworks District and the Animal Aid Vermilion Area group.
Election Day is October 24, 2015 and I humbly ask for your support. I know together we can move District 1 as well as the entire Parish to the next level. My positive attitude, work ethic and conservative Republican approach make me most qualified for this position. Should you have any questions or concerns that you would like to discuss, please do not hesitate to call me at 337-319-0600 or darind@cox.net.
