Crack found in cracker container in Abbeville home

One Abbeville man took the meaning to a Ritz Bits Cracker container to a whole new level.
The Vermilion Parish Task Force found alleged crack cocaine in a Ritz Cracker container, which would be also easily accessible to a baby in the house.
On Tuesday, agents executed a search warrant at a residence located at 1005 Godcheaux Street in Abbeville. After receiving information that illicit narcotics were being sold from the residence, agents began conducting an investigation into the alleged activity. After collecting sufficient evidence, agents applied for, and obtained, a search warrant for the said residence.
Upon entering the house, agents located a male and female subject, along with a toddler.
After securing all persons, and advising them of their rights, agents asked the male suspect known as Floyd Harris III (Date of birth 1-24-82), if there were any illegal narcotics inside of the residence. Harris advised the agents that there were none. A quick search of Harris indicated he was in fact lying as suspected marijuana was found on this person.
Agents again asked and Harris advised no. At this time the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office K-9 team was utilized to provide assistance in finding possible illegal narcotics.
After K-9 Rocco alerted in certain areas, giving indication that narcotics may have been inside the residence, agents broadened their search.
One agent located a small Ritz Cracker container, but noticed something strange about the container.
Upon further investigation, the agent noticed a false bottom to the container, and upon removing it found several suspected rocks of crack cocaine, and one larger piece of the drug. Harris was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Agents said what unnerved them the most was the toddler being inside of the house and the drugs placed in a container that the toddler could have had access to.

Sheriff Mike Couvillon would like to thank Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza, and Abbeville Chief of Police Tony Hardy for their effort in assisting with Task Force personnel. “I realize times are financially tough all over, but the city of Abbeville is committed to finding the funds to help the Task Force combat the illicit drugs problem that ruins our communities. The people of Vermilion and our children are the benificiaries of these city leaders’ great efforts. It is my hope that in the near future other towns and cities in the parish of Vermilion will be able to assist in the continuing fight against illicit drugs.”
Finally, Sheriff Couvillon would like to applaud the concerned citizens of Vermilion Parish for their awareness and assistance in helping the Sheriff’s Office in fighting the war on illegal drugs. He encourages all citizens with information in regards to illegal drug activities to contact the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office or the Vermilion Parish Municipal Narcotics Task Force at 337-740-4501 or E-mail the Task Force anonymously at taskforce@vpso.net and your e-mail will be held in the “strictest of confidence” and replied to in a very timely manner.
