Counterfeit money circulating throughout Abbeville

The Abbeville Police Department is warning businesses and people that there are counterfeit bills circulating in Abbeville.
The Abbeville Police Department located different counterfeit bills in the city over the last two weeks
The police department received complaints about counterfeit $20 bills and $100 bills.
Lt. David Hardy said both bills are not good quality bills. He was not sure if the bills could have been made by the same person.
“We are beginning to see more and more,” said Hardy about the bills. “We are asking the local merchants to inspect their bills carefully. Look for the signs of counterfeit bills.”
Last week an Abbeville couple was approached by 21-year-old Jamon Johnson Jr., who was looking to make change for the $20.
The couple held the bill and looked it over and realized the $20 was fake. They informed Johnson the bill was not real, who then took off running.
The couple contacted the police department about what had just occurred. With the help of security cameras, the Abbeville Police detectives were able to view the exchange. The police recognized it was Johnson in the security camera.
The police issued a warrant for Johnson’s arrest last week.
Detectives LeLand Laseter and Ryan Boutte went to Johnson’s neighborhood and saw him walking on the street. They stopped and asked who he was and, Johnson told the detectives another name.
During the questioning, Laseter noticed what looked to be an alleged bag of marijuana in Johnson’s pants pocket.
The two detectives arrested him on the warrant, and they also located a half ounce of marijuana and an ounce of synthetic marijuana. Johnson also had a pistol in his possession.
He was charged with five different things including possession of counterfeit money, theft, two counts of possession of marijuana and carrying a firearm.
His total bond for all the charges was $12,500.
