Cold weather deters crime for Mardi Gras in Kaplan, Abbeville

In the past, the Abbeville Police Department have dealt with shootings and murders on Mardi Gras Day. On Tuesday, the only thing the police dealt with was frozen roads.
With the wind blowing, rain falling and the temperature hovering around 32 degrees, many people stayed inside and kept warm throughout the day.
The good news for the police departments throughout the parish is that few people partied in the streets because of Mother Nature.
In Abbeville, the streets have not been to kind to Abbeville on Mardi Gras. There have been four murders on the streets of Abbeville over the last five Mardi Gras. The Guidry brothers were gunned down in their home Mardi Gras morning last year.
The 2014 Mardi Gras in Abbeville did not have any murders or shootings, according Lt. David Hardy of the Abbeville Police Department. “It was a good day,” he said.
The same was said about the Mardi Gras parade in Kaplan. Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams said it was quiet, thanks to the cold weather.
