Child porn charge added to Abbeville High School teacher
After being arrested and charged with one count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile. last week, a new charge has been added to Abbeville High School science teacher Nick Willis.
The new charge is one count of possession pornography involving a juvenile. He could be sentenced to 20 years in prison for that one count.
He was booked into the Vermilion Parish jail Tuesday and his bond was set at $20,000 for the new pornography charge.
According to Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams, an image of a nude juvenile was allegedly found on Willis’ cell phone. Adams did not know if the image on the cell phone was of the female student he was allegedly having sex with.
Last week Willis, 36, was arrested by the Kaplan Police after a complaint was filed against Willis. The Abbeville Police Department investigated the complaint which led to Willis’ arrest on Jan. 6.
The definition of carnal knowledge of a juvenile is: “A person who is 17 years of age or older and has sexual intercourse, with consent, with a person who is 13 years of age or older but less than seventeen years of age, when the victim is not the spouse of the offender and when the difference between the age of the victim and the age of the offender is four years or greater.”
Willis, who lives in Kaplan, was a science teacher at Abbeville High for eight years.
He was also the assistant girls basketball and softball coach for AHS. He kept stats for the football team.
Willis teaches physics, physical science and chemistry at Abbeville High, according to the school’s website.
Vermilion Parish Superintendent Jerome Puyau said Willis was placed on leave last week.
Willis becomes the second Vermilion Parish teacher to be charged with carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
On April 23, 2014, then Kaplan band teacher Alex Hillard was arrested and charged with three counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile. His bond was set at $30,000.
