Chalmette man charged after fatal hit-and-run

A 70-year-old Chalmette man has been charged with negligent homicide in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident on Sunday.

Louisiana State Police say in a news release that Harold Barrett turned himself in at the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office on Wednesday.

Authorities say 54-year-old Donna Landry of Chalmette was killed after being struck by a pickup truck on Dec. 29 on Louisiana Highway 46 in St. Bernard Parish. The motorist left the scene.

Barrett is also charged with felony hit and run and reckless operation.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
