Car chase by State Police ends in two-car accident in Abbeville, discovery of five guns

What should have been a routine traffic stop by the State Police turned into a car chase that landed three people in the hospital, two total lost cars, and a surprise discovery in one of the wrecked vehicles.
Recently, State Police attempted to pull over a white 2015 Chevy Malibu on Hwy. 167 in Lafayette Parish for a traffic violation.
The vehicle, driven by Paul Rice, did not stop and instead, sped away from the State Trooper and headed into Vermilion Parish on Hwy. 167.
Rice, reaching speeds of close to 100 miles per hour, approached the intersection of La. 14 and Hwy. 167 entering Abbeville and did not stop.
When he approached the intersection, he tried to run through the red light and hit a vehicle traveling east bound.
There were three people, counting Rice, in the Chevy. Rice is the only one who did not require an overnight stay in the hospital.
Jamirah Petry, a passenger in Rice’s car, stayed in the hospital three days and was arrested by State Police when he was discharged earlier this week.
Another of Rice’s passenger, whose name has not been released, is still in the hospital a week after the accident occurred.
The driver of the other vehicle also went to the hospital that night. The name of the driver of the other vehicle has not been released.
The surprise discovery found in the Chevy, which is a rented vehicle, was five guns, six magazines that hold bullets and a ski mask. The State Police located three rifles and two handguns. One of the rifles was an AK-47, while the other two were AR-15s.
Master Trooper Brooks David of the State Police said the State Police is trying to find who the guns belonged to. He said the investigation is still ongoing.
David said the State Police is looking to see if the guns located in the car could have been used in recent shootings at homes in Abbeville.
Rice and Petry were arrested and had multiple charges against them.
Rice’s bond is set at $39,250.
