Amy Noel, Erath High teacher, passes after single car accident
An Erath High School teacher succumbs to injuries from a single car accident on La. 14 between Delcambre and New Iberia.
Amy Brown Noel, who is an organ donor, was pronounced dead Thursday morning at Lafayette General Hospital.
The accident occurred Tuesday afternoon, and she was rushed to Lafayette General Hospital where she never recovered.
She leaves behind Troy, her husband, and two sons, Alex and Brandon.
As of 1 p.m., it is unknown what funeral home is handling the arrangements.
The death of Noel, who is a native of Delcambre, was announced Thursday morning at Erath High, where she taught chemistry and physics for at least 10 years.
Erath High Principal Marc Turner was saddened to hear Erath High lost a Bobcat Family Member and EHS staff member.
“This is momentous to the communities of Erath and Delcambre,” said Turner. “We are saddened by the news of Amy Brown Noel’s tragic passing.
“Mrs Amy was sincere in her efforts to make a mark on education of all students at EHS.”
Turner said the students are devastated after hearing the news of Noel’s passing.
“Not only was she an educator and mother, she was a friend to many on campus and a support system to our students. She was warm, loving, gracious and sincere in her day to day efforts to reach out to her students,” Turner added.
“She is loved and will be missed every day.”
On a wall entering Erath High School, Amy’s teaching philosophy is on display, “Everyone has the right to an education. Teachers are here to help, but students are responsible for getting the best education they possibly can.”
Principal Turner said that teaching was Amy’s calling, and she lived by her philosophy of doing all she could to have high classroom standards, but also to keep a good balance of respect between her and her students.
Amy’s parents, Estelle and Jimmy Brown, already had to bury a daughter, Amy’s sister, who also died in a car accident.
Amanda Brown was a sophomore at Delcambre High School when she died in a car accident north of Erath in 1996.
