Allegedly two men tried to eat heroin during arrest in Abbeville

Two men allegedly thought they would outsmart the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit by trying to eat the evidence and throw it out of the car. It did not work, and they almost died from their actions.
According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit made three arrests that led to the arrest of three people for drug charges.
After initiating an investigation, agents made a traffic stop on Hwy 167 in Abbeville on suspects believed to be selling illicit narcotics.
Once agents activated their emergency lights, it was noticed that one of the suspects in the vehicle was discarding something out of the window.
Upon making a full stop, and agents approaching the car with loud commands, two male suspects became non compliant.
While removing the two males, it was noticed that they were attempting to eat the suspected narcotics. Agents were able to retrieve some of the drugs, but the suspects did in fact ingest what were believed to be several grams of heroin.
This decision was nearly a fatal one, as later both suspects were taken to the hospital as the drugs began to invade their system.
After being released, three suspects in all were arrested in this incident;
•Kervin Gallien (Date of birth 2/28/93) of Lafayette, arrested and charged with principal to possession with the intent to distribute Heroin, principal to possession of marijuana, principal to possession of drug paraphernalia
