Abbeville's own Koryn Hawthorne advances in The Voice
Abbeville’s own Koryn Hawthorne continues to impress the coaches on the NBC singing show “The Voice.”
On Monday night the 17-year-old advanced to the live playoff round, which will start in April.
She impressed coaches and America with a rendition of Pink’s “Try.” But team coach Christina Aguilera chose to save her opponent, Kimberly Nichole, who rocked the crowd with the Sting hit, “Set Them Free.”
“I’ve already worked with one of the greats, Christina Aguilera,” said Hawthorne during the show. “Now I’m going to work with one of the other greatest greats, Pharrell Williams.”
“I’m overjoyed to have you on my team,” said Williams. “I don’t have anyone like you. There’s so much we can do. You’re special.”
Tuesday morning Hawthorne took time off of attending classes at Lighthouse Christian Preparatory School to interview with Lafayette Radio Station KSMB. She was able to watch Monday night’s show with her family at her home in Gross Isle.
“It has been an amazing experience,” said Hawthorne. “It was cool to watch it at home with my family, knowing everyone in Acadiana was watching. I am just blessed. It is exciting.”
