Abbeville wins Clean City contest
After taking a year off from competition, the City of Abbeville made a return to the Cleanest City Contest in a big way, by winning the district title.
Abbeville competed in the Louisiana Garden Club Federation District III Cleanest City Contest on Tuesday, March 22. District III Cleanest City Contest Chairmen Gwen Lanoux and Patsy Hebert stated that, “Abbeville excelled in the District III Contest. The judges were impressed with the overall cleanliness of the city and the extent of civic pride and community involvement.”
Judges for the District III CCC were LGCF members Kathy Tell and Jennifer Granger from Lake Charles and Georgie Petitjean from Crowley.
The City of Abbeville will be competing in the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc. State Cleanest City Contest.
“That if it were not for the many volunteers, city workers, and all other entities this would not have resulted in a win,” Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza said. “After the Great American Cleanup, volunteers commented that the Keep Abbeville Beautiful program has made a difference.”
Although a firm date has not been set at this time, the contest will be held during the last two weeks in April. The exact date for judging in Abbeville will be announced by State Cleanest City Contest Chairperson, Jean Gilstrap.
“It is imperative that the citizens of Abbeville take pride in their City and continue to keep it clean so that we can win State!,” Hebert exclaimed.
