Abbeville teen found guilty of two counts of first degree murder

A young man will be spending the rest of his life in jail after a jury took only 2 1/2 hours to convict him of two counts of first degree murder, two counts of obstruction of justice and one count of second degree kidnapping.
On Thursday, D’Andre Sinegal was found guilty of first degree murder for the killing of brothers Michael and Gary Guidry Jr. on Feb. 12, 2013. He was 17 years old when he shot the two brothers.
He will be sentenced to life in prison for each count of first degree murder.
Laurie Hulin is the assistant attorney who prosecuted the case. She said a conviction came because of teamwork from the Abbeville Police Department and the witnesses, who testified against Sinegal.
“I want to commend Lt. David Hardy and his investigative team,” said Hulin after hearing the verdict. “They had the defendant arrested within two and half hours. The collection of evidence was done well. We had witness cooperation.”
The killing occurred all because of four slashed tires.
Sinegal went to the Guidry house because he wanted to know who slashed the tires on his car.
“D’ Andrea had total disregard for human life,” said Hulin in her closing arguments. “He had more regard for the tires on his car than the Guidrys. He murdered two men over a set of tires. We still do not know who slashed his tires.”
The trial, which lasted two days, was held in the 15th District Judicial Courthouse.
Witnesses testified they saw Sinegal fire a 9 millimeter pistol at the Guidry brothers on the morning of Feb. 12, 2013.
According to testimonies by sisters Kim and Hane Hanks, who were girl friends of the Guidry brothers, they told jurors Sinegal entered their home that morning and fired shots, hitting each brother in the face.
Kim Hanks, the girl friend of Gary, testified the two were in bed when Sinegal walked into their bedroom pointing a gun at Gary, who sat up in bed. Kim said she jumped out of the bed and ran to a room to protect her son.
She testified she heard two gun shots, one killing Gary.
The other sister, Hane, was still in bed with Michael, and testified she saw Sinegal point his gun at Michael and fire two more shots, hitting him in the face and killing him.
Sinegal left the house in a car driven by his girlfriend Amanda LeBon. LeBon testified she did not know he went into the house to kill the two brothers. She drove Sinegal to a sugarcane field where he got rid of the gun and she drove him to a Lafayette hospital where he cleaned the mud off his clothes.
Sinegal was later arrested that morning in Abbeville after he was found hiding under a house.
