Abbeville police respond to phone scam complaints

The Abbeville Police Department has recently responded to complaints where citizens have received telephone calls from different phone numbers with a (337) area code.
The citizens advised that the person on the other end of the conversation advised them that they were following up on applications for disability payments. The citizens were then asked personal information, and banking information.
When the citizens advised that they did not apply for disability, the phone call dropped. The citizens tried to call the numbers back but never received an answer.
The Abbeville Police Department would like to caution citizens when releasing personal and banking information to people over the phone.
