Abbeville Police find stolen gun, drugs during traffic stop

On Jan. 15, 2015, at approximately 11:15 a.m., investigators with Abbeville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at the intersection of Franks Alley and S. Miles St. While Investigators were stopping the vehicle, they observed the front seat passenger hiding something between the seats.
The passenger, identified as Lawrence Stagg (21 years of age from Abbeville), was taken out of the vehicle. Investigators observed a firearm between the seats in plain sight.
Upon further investigation, Investigators found Stagg to be in possession of 35 rocks of crack cocaine and a half of a cookie of crack cocaine (more than 11 grams). It was also learned Stagg was a convicted felon, currently on parole. After running the serial numbers on the gun, the gun was found to be stolen from the Lafayette area.
Stagg was taken into custody and booked on the charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II CDS, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a CDS.
Stagg is currently being held at Vermilion Parish Correctional Center on a $60,000.00 bond. Stagg was also issued a citation for No Seatbelt.
The driver of the vehicle was issued a citation for No Seatbelt and Driving Under Suspension and released.
