Abbeville police catch alleged robbery in place on Christmas Eve
An Abbeville man made a poor decision on what to do for Christmas Eve, and it cost him time in jail.
On Christmas Eve morning, just after midnight, the Abbeville Police Department received a complaint of a burglary in progress.
The complainant’s address was located at 2216 Anita Street.
Upon the officer’s arrival in the area, they were flagged down and advised that the suspect ran into a field, south of the burglary location.
An officer was given a description of the suspect, who was identified by the complainants as being a Vietnamese male.
The officers surrounded the field and alerted the suspect of the impending Police K-9 that was to be sent into the field to search for the suspect.
After no response, the Police K-9 was released into the field. After a few minutes of searching the field, a K-9 apprehension was made on Nghiep Van Nguyen, 51, of Abbeville.
Nghiep Van Nguyen was transported to Abbeville General, where he was medically cleared for incarceration and booked on the charges of Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling and Resisting an Officer.
Chief Hardy would like to commend the officers involved on their quick response and the apprehension of the suspect.
