Abbeville Police have arrested two men in connection to a shooting early Monday that left another man dead.
Jacoby Andrews, 25, of Abbeville died Monday at Abbeville General Hospital as a result of gun-shot wounds.
After interviews, Donathan McLane Comeaux was arrested and booked on the charge of Obstruction of Justice and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. He was then transported to VPSO where he awaits bond.
Officers also arrested and booked Jonathan Markelle Comeaux for the charge of Illegal Discharge of a Firearm. Jonathan Comeaux was booked in and then bonded on the charge. After consulting with the District Attorney’s Office, the charge of 2nd Degree Murder will be sent to the DA’s Office for review.
Officers responded at 3:58 a.m. Monday to a report of shots fired in the area of the 1400 block of South Louisiana Street. Upon arrival, the officers located Andrews in a nearby yard.
“They found him injured from apparent gun-shot wounds,” Abbeville Police Department Lt. David Hardy said. “He was transported to Abbeville General by Acadiana Ambulance.
“He later succumbed to his injuries.”
Hardy said officers obtained a search warrant for the residence at 1444 S. Louisiana St. after a search of the front yard led to a need to enter the home.
“We saw that the scene expanded to the house,” Hardy said. “We found casings in the yard and saw a need to search the home. We recovered numerous slugs from the interior of the residence. We also located three firearms."
Officers obtained entry into the residence to further their investigation and found two people sleeping inside. The people were interviewed and the residence was processed where multiple slugs were removed from the interior of the residence. During the search of the yard area, officers located the three firearms, two of which were reported stolen.
The Abbeville Police Department continued its investigation by re-interviewing the people inside the residence and other subjects who were known to have been at the residence. The subjects inside the residence were cooperative and spoke with the detectives. According to the statements obtained, Andrews allegedly forced his way into the residence while armed with a firearm. The statements were that Andrews shot his firearm while inside the residence and gunfire was returned. Statements were also made that a second gunman was shooting from outside the residence as well. Andrews then ran out of the residence and was later found in a nearby yard.
