Abbeville police arrest two men for allegedly burglarizing lounge and possibly more Abbeville businesses
Sometimes wearing a mask is not always the best way to disguise yourself when you burglarize a business, especially when there is a video camera watching every move you make.
Despite having masks over their faces, the Abbeville Police detectives were able to figure out who one of the men were after watching a surveillance video at a lounge.
According to Abbeville Det. Ryan Boutte, several businesses in the city were broken into over the weekend. One of those businesses was the Bee Hive Lounge. The lounge has video tape showing two masked men walking around the lounge looking for money.
Boutte said the police were able to recognize one of the men based on his tattoos on his arms and hands.
On Monday, the detectives arrested Shane Turner, 39, and Keith Menard, 18, both of Abbeville thanks to the surveillance video.
According to Boutte, Turner confessed to breaking into the Bee-Hive Lounge. He was booked into the parish jail and charged with simple burglary and illegal possession of stolen goods. His total bond for the two charges equals to $50,500. He is still in the parish jail as of Wednesday.
The police also arrested 18-year-old Keith Menard of Abbeville. He was charged with simple burglar and illegal possession of stolen goods. His bond, however, was set at $100,500 by a different judge.
Both men live together at 506 Bailey Street in Abbeville. When the police found Turner, they also found Menard with him.
Menard did not confess to any of the burglaries.
Over the weekend, at least four Abbeville businesses were broken into and the criminals were in search of money. At one business the back door was kicked down.
Boutte did not want to say if the two men broke into other businesses until DNA results are returned from the crime lab.
Right now, they are only charged for the alleged burglary of the Bee-Hive Lounge.
Other businesses broken into over the weekend were: Shuckâs, the Maytag Laundry Mat on Charity Street, the Frederick Brothers Barber Shop and the Oasis Lounge.
