Abbeville man tries to run from the Vermilion Task Force

An Abbeville man tried to flee from the Vermilion Parish Municipal Narcotics Task Force and was caught and charges were filed against him.
Recently, agents with the Vermilion Parish Municipal Narcotics Task Force were conducting criminal patrol inside the city limits of Abbeville.
Agents noticed Breon Thibeaux walking North on St. Valerie Street. Agents knew that Thibeaux had an active warrant for his arrest.
Upon Agents exiting their vehicles and attempting to arrest Thibeaux, Thibeaux fled on foot. Agents pursued directly behind Thibeaux and observed him throwing items as he fled. Thibeaux was apprehended a short time later and agents were able to retrieve the items that Thibeaux discarded while fleeing.
It was discovered that Thibeaux threw a prescription bottle with no label containing a large amount of suspected crack cocaine and a large amount of prescription pills. Thibeaux also discarded a large amount of currency, his baseball hat and flip flops. Thibeaux was arrested and charged with:
• Possession with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine;
• Possession with Intent to Distribute Lortabs;
• Prohibited Acts, all Schedules;
• Transactions Involving Drug Proceeds; and
·• Resisting Arrest.
Sheriff Mike Couvillon would like to thank Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza and Abbeville Chief of Police Tony Hardy for their effort in assisting with Task Force personnel. “I realize times are financially tough all over, but the City of Abbeville is committed to finding the funds to help the Task Force combat the illicit drugs problem that ruins our communities. The people of Vermilion Parish and our children are the beneficiaries of these city leaders’ great efforts. It is my hope that in the near future other towns and cities in the Parish of Vermilion will be able to assist in the continuing fight against illicit drugs.”
